“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”, or so they say, so wrote William Shakespeare. But is it true?
We give life to the names we have, and in turn our name gives life to us, it reminds us who we are. Receiving a name is an intimate rite of passage, even though we may be too young to appreciate that. Being given our name is being welcomed into the human family and into human history. So, the naming ceremony initiates us into our being in the world.
